SSC Masters Inter-Club Swimming Championships

SSC men's and women's masters teams were declared overall winners at the "SSC Masters Inter-Club swimming Championships held at the Singhalese Sports Club swimming pool on 10th September 2011. This was the third time that SSC won this championship getting the better of stiff competition from MAS, John Keels, Otters, Rainbow and Unilevers.

The meet attracted many swimmers who had represented Sri Lanka in the past.

In the men's category SSC collected 341 points with MAS group coming second with 284 and John Keels group was placed third with 213 points.

In the women's championships SSC Ladies got the better of their opponents with 192 points while MAS group coming second with 124 points and John Keels with 70 points coming third.

Notable performers at this year's meet were Priyantha Karunaratne, Jehan Peiris, Dushmantha Karannagoda and Chathuri Abeykoen all of SSC, S.M.M.S. Seneviratne of Rainbow Aquatic club, Navin Karunaratne of Uni Levers and Ashani Warnapura of MAS.

SSC Cricket School wins MCA Centenary U13 Cricket Championships

The SSC Cricket School won the MCA Centenary year thirty over U 13 Cricket Championship by beating the Lankan CC by a whopping 116 runs in the finals played at the MCA grounds on Sunday 4th September 2011. The SSC cricket School batting first scored 163 for three in the allotted 30 over's  with skipper Nipun Samarasinge top scoring with a well compiled sixty seven. The Lankan  CC in their turn lost their skipper and star bat  Abeywickrema  in the first over of the innings ,never recovered and was skittled out for a paltry 46.  Harin Cooray the left arm spinner with three for ten was the pick of the bowlers .  Nipun Samarasinhe was adjudged the man of the finals for his superlative batting and superior leadership .
The SSC Cricket School  had a very successful tournament winning all their matches with  comparative ease. .  In the preliminary round they beat Panadura CC by one wicket, MCA whites by sixty nine runs ,Naranahenpita CA by ninety eight runs , Roy Dias CA  by eight wickets and Hyderabad CA by one hundred and sixty four runs . In the final round they beat Sanath Jayasuriya CA by 120 runs in the quarter finals and CCC School of Cricket by fourteen runs in a rain effected Semi final.
A feature of their performance was the excellent batting display of their top order batsman which included  two double century partnerships .Skipper Nipun Sumanasinghe  lead the way scoring three hundred eighty runs inclusive of a century while Shehan Dilshan scored two hundred sixty in the tournament .Jehan Daniels scored a century in one of the preliminary games. The bowling honours went to Harin Cooray ,Lahiru Udayanga, Vishan Rajakauna and Nipun Sumanasinge who bowled well throughout the tournament .
The SSC Cricket School side comprised of Nipun Sumanasinghe  Capt, Lahiru Udayanga , Jehan Daniels , Harin Cooray ,Dineth Madurawela, Shehan Dilshan ,Vishan Rajakaruna , Jason de Silva, Shevan Fonseka ,Kaumal Nanayakkara, Harrison Ragulan , Mihindu Samarasinghe , Delon Pieris and Shalon Perera.

SCC-PayPal Twenty20 Tournament 2011

SSC, the defending Champions and favourites lived up to their expectations by emerging champions of the competition by defeating Singapore Cricket Association (SCA) President’s XI in the final game. With names such as Thilina Kandambi, Dimuth Karunaratne, Thilina Thushara and Nuwan Zoysa in the squad, SSC proved far superior to the other teams. The SSC squad was sponsored by UFL-Uniting Future Legends, a Singapore-based brand belonging to Alpine Creations, which was also the official apparel partner of the SCC-PayPal twenty20 Tournament 2011.

It was a comprehensive victory for the SSC side in the final against Singapore Cricket Association. As well as defending their title, SSC skipper Thilina Kandambi was named Player of the Tournament after scoring the most runs and turning in vital bowling spells in each of his side’s five matches. For his breathtaking innings, which saw large sections of the crowd chanting his name throughout the latter stages of the game, Nuwan Zoysa was awarded the Man of the Match in the Cup Final.
